Edgy Women Festival - Annie Sprinkle
The Edgy Women Festival is hitting Montreal, starting this Thursday (March 17th) and running through to April 3rd. It is a sex positive feminist performing arts festival featuring cutting edge performances based around female sexuality, workshops, free shows etc… The majority of the events are taking place at Sala Rossa, La Centrale and Studio 303 in the Belgo Building. Today on the show we played two segments from an interview done by Jess Grossman of CKUT’s Audio Smut Collective with Annie Sprinkle and Elizabeth Stephens. Both are taking part in an evening of performance art at Sala Rossa this Saturday March 19th as well as giving love and sex advice at La Centrale this Monday March 21st at La Centrale.
Change for Change is an international organization started by students to raise awareness and aid for homelessness issues. The McGill Chapter is the first in Canada and is holding several events in the coming weeks and looking for new participants. Today we spoke with Talia Smith, a representative from the McGill Chapter. The McGill Human Rights Interest Group has organized a vigil on Parliament Hill called The Shoe Statement for this Friday March 18th at 2 pm. The group is collecting 500 shoes which they will bring to 
Parliament Hill to symbolize the over 500 aboriginal women who have gone missing. Speakers at the vigil will include Bridget Tolley, a proud Algonquin woman and grandmother from the Kitigan Zibi Anishinabeg located in Quebec, Kristen Gilchrist, a PhD candidate and researcher at Carleton University in Ontario whose dissertation explores the growing movement on behalf of missing and murdered Aboriginal women and Lindsay Mossman, the Amnesty International coordinator for the programme of work on Women’s Human Rights. This morning we spoke with Tiffany Boisvert, the General Coordinator of the McGill Human Rights Interest Group. Much as indigenous Palestinians have been resisting displacement from
their lands since 1948 and even before, the original peoples of Turtle
Island (“North America”) have been struggling against colonization
since 1492. This panel discussion will bring together Native activists
from different parts of the country to talk about their own
communities’ struggles against colonialism and erasure. Links will be
drawn between the current situation in Palestine and indigenous
communities in Canada. Speakers will address various topics such as
the impacts of the Alberta tar sands on native communities,
residential schools, and anti-mining struggles on the Kanehsatake
Mohawk territory.
