RECORD FAIR :: SUNDAY
The only place in town to find albums and merch from all your favourite indie music labels, including Sublime Frequencies, Fixture Records, Arbutus Records, and Dare to Care, browse new and used vinyl from local record shops, and flip through crates upon crates of used vinyl from avid collectors—not to mention get your guitar tuned up and buy concert tickets from Blue Skies Turn Black.
This year’s Record Fair features a series of workshops and presentations in collaboration with the POP Montreal Symposium.
The POP Montreal Record Fair is a yearly convention of local and international record sellers. This year’s confirmed vendors include independent labels Sublime Frequencies, Arbutus, Psychic Handshake, Dare to Care/Grosse Boîte, Youth Club, Fixture, Bongo Beat, and Mucho Gusto, local record shops Phonopolis, Primitive Records, Le Pick-up, Death of Vinyl, and Aux 33 tours, a selection of secondhand vinyl collectors, as well as Lutherie Steven Balogh, Blue Skies Turn Black, CKUT, Bruise Cruise Festival, and many others. This 2-day event takes place over the weekend of Sept 24th and 25th in the Ukrainian Federation basement. Stop by in the morning to grab a coffee and browse the rows of vendors and stick around to catch a Symposium workshop in the afternoon.
Learn to build your own contact mic with this free hands-on workshop at the Record Fair. Instructor Michael Baker will show you how to take ordinary materials and turn them into a powerful recording device for picking up live sounds on just about anything! Participants will leave with a self-made contact mic to start using right away.
Please note: We are now at capacity and unfortunately cannot accept anymore participants for this workshop.
Bring a record to share at this cozy vinyl listening session taking place at the Record Fair. Each afternoon will have a theme and everyone is invited to bring a record they want to share that fits with the day’s theme. Participants will take turns playing the 1 or 2 songs from their album of choice, offer a brief commentary on why they chose their album, how they came across it, and how it fits with the theme, and the rest of the group will be invited to discuss each selection.
