  1. to make up for poor performance of city pension fund in 2008. The casino economy strikes again. And who pays? Not Goldman Sachs. Employee unions outraged aobut being the scapegoat: http://www.montrealgazette.com/business/Montreal+mayor+tame+pension+monster/3914909/story.html
  2. Evaluation roles are up this year
  3. Tax on vehicle registration 45$ (Harel and Bergeron would rather see tolls placed on the bridges for 450 suburbanites to pay their fair share into MTL, Vision Montréal voted against vehicle surcharge, Projet Montréal voted in favour)
  4. Water tax raised. This is an excuse, there’s no certainty at all that this money will go into investing in our water supply.
  5. Boroughs to get dinged the worst: Plateau, Southwest and Lachine.

  • Smart Design Mart
    • The first weekend of December marks Smart Design Marts 2nd annual showcase. And this year is bigger and better than last! SDM 2010 will feature new designers and artists as well as local favorites. Taking the idea of the classic artisan fair and giving it a modern spin, the curators of this event (Furni, Broundoor, Elaine Ho, Norwegian Wood and Tyson Bodnarchuk) have envisioned a show with wide open spaces and some of Montreal’s …finest artists and designers. The show is a blend of seasoned show veterans and fresh from the studio first time exhibitors, creating a dynamic mix in a variety of categories such as clothing, jewelry, furniture, art and the welcome addition of select vintage goods. Set in the industrial setting of a 20 000 square foot garment industry loft (now empty) each designer and artist has been hand picked by the smart design mart curators and has been asked to create a mini boutique within the space. Aisles will be roomy, food and drink will be served and music will be drifting, creating the perfect exciting yet comfortable shopping event. Montreal’s own EN MASSE (enmasse.info) art collective has been invited to create a live art installation, giving shoppers a moment to recharge, have a drink and enjoy the art.

    • To celebrate another great semester of public conversations the University of the Streets Café is turning to the age-old tradition of storytelling. What happens when we meet, listen, speak, and share the stories that make up who we are? Where do our perceptions of the world intersect and our identities collide to create this thing we call community? During this evening of public storytelling we will hear from local storytellers – both new and experienced – and create a common space to share the many stories we all carry. Come early and stay late to enjoy good McAuslan beer and earn a chance to win a door prize.
