Kelly Pflug-Back on These Burning Streets, Women, and Prisons

Kelly Pflug-Back is a published poet and author as well as a well-known activist for her work in anti-poverty and harm reduction organizing. Kelly recently spent seven months in prison at the Vanier Correctional Centre for Women for her alleged participation in the riots during the G20 protests in Toronto in 2010. She will be launching her poetry book “These Burning Streets” in April in Montreal. Kelly joined CKUT‘s Friday Morning After on the phone from Toronto.

The speaking tour is organized by the Women’s Coordinating Committee for a Free Wallmapu.

Sayeh Sarfaraz: Étrange dictature

Sayeh Sarfaraz est une artiste en arts visuels qui vit et travaille à Montréal depuis 2008. Sayeh Sarfaraz presente une nouvelle installation intitulée Étrange dictature. Étrange dictature est en exposition au MAI — Montréal, arts interculturels — depuis le 19 janvier. Étrange dictature est la sixième exposition de Sayeh Sarfaraz qui est consacrée aux thèmes de la dictature et à la contestation. L’installation surtout met en évidence l’histoire collective des prisonniers politiques en Iran. Depuis l’élection contestée de Mahmoud Ahmadinejad en 2009, plusieurs centaines de personnes ont été condamnées lors de procès collectives. A travers Étrange dictature, Sayeh Sarfaraz met en relief la violence des gouvernements, ainsi que les manifestations de résistence d’un peuple.
