Stephen Harper says we can’t afford to finance our current pension payment. Yet a pension expert that Harper hired a couple of years ago says it’s sustainable and sound. This time, an interview with Anita Sinner, from Concordia’s Art Education department, Erika Hasebe-Ludt, who teaches literacy, language studies and curriculum at the University of Lethbridge and Carl Leggo, a poet and professor of language and literacy education from UBC. Last Thursday, all three gave a full day lecture and workshop entitled: Portrayals of Teachers’ Lives: Investigating Teacher Education through Creative Non-Fiction. We will also hear impressions from a workshop participant.

Protesters evicted from the James building by the police last Sunday morning; mixed reactions from students. Raises the question of what solidarity looks like on our campus.
as a result, an occupation protocol was released by the administration on February 12, outlining students’ rights to protest. All occupations are deemed unacceptable and broad guidelines are in place regarding as to when the police can be called, and it seems as if any disruption of university services is “fair game.”
More student unrest as 300 protestors marched on campus on Valentine’s day as part of the unlimited general student strike. The students came from UQAM, marched through campus and left peacefully within an hour. The recent waves of student protest have been rising – one wonders if they will escalate, and based on the attitude among students, it very well might.

Winter Lightning was recorded here in Montreal at the Hotel2Tango with Howard Bilerman (Arcade Fire, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Wolf Parade). For ‘Sawdust & Rum’ we traveled to Nova Scotia to self record the album in a cabin on the ocean. The album was inspired by the recent passing of Rick’s grandfather.
We will be touring Western/Eastern Canada, Northern USA, and the Eastern USA in support of these records in spring/summer. Both albums are slated for release this spring, check our website for pre-sale and the official release date, coming soon.
